1997

"Save the Whales" isn't just a slogan. It's the goal of the Save Whales-Not Whaling campaign. It's hard to believe, but there are countries that still want to kill whales. There's simply no need. Not only does whaling pose devastating threats to whale populations, but it is extremely cruel. HSUS/HSI arms pro-whale countries with the legal and scientific arguments they need to be able to stop the slaughter in their waters, and faces opponents at the International Whaling Commission meetings, where the fate of whales is debated and decided. HSUS/HSI work to enforce the policies that protect whales, and reverse the cruel policies of some governments that would end that protection.

Buffalo Exchange is a sustainable company that works to protect the environment by reusing and recycling clothing. Buffalo Exchange donates to local nonprofit agencies in the community through its Tokens for Bags(r) program, which has generated over $300,000 for hundreds of nonprofits since 1994, saving 6 million bags. Shoppers are encouraged to accept a token instead of a bag for purchases, and Buffalo Exchange donates five cents to a charity of the customer's choice. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is the nation's largest animal protection organization - backed by 10.5 million Americans, or one of every 30. Humane Society International (HSI) is the international arm of The HSUS. For more than a half-century, The HSUS has been fighting for the protection of all animals through advocacy, education and hands-on programs.
